Book Recommendations from Oasis

At this time of year, you may be considering giving a Christian-themed book or Bible as a gift for a loved one. We asked members of the Oasis family if they had any book recommendations to share, and here are a few to start with!

Dave's Recommendation:
Finding the Peacemakers, by Dan Morrice
Find out more here
On Sale £9.99 from £14.99
We had the Author Dan Morrice speak at Streatham Baptist Church earlier this month, and for a Men's Event on Saturday and he was very inspirational talking about his first book "Finding the Peacemakers". £14.99 Paperback but available for a limited period at £9.99 whilst stocks last!

Armed with a camera, a notebook, and a perilous sense of curiosity, Dan Morrice, a former teacher, embarks upon a global journey to meet the peacemakers – unsung heroes, forging peace in extreme environments, from war-torn nations to disaster zones.

From Chilean miners to Syrian refugees, from ex-football hooligans in Britain, to revolutionaries in Israel-Palestine, Dan discovers how the most unlikely people are rediscovering Christian faith and rewriting the fractured history of our time.

Peter's Recommendation:
Why I'm still a Christian, by Justin Brierley
Find out more here
On sale at £10.99
Justin Brierly hosts a show on Premier Radio called Unbelievable where he interviews a whole variety of people including Atheists and Christians, often together. He draws on reflections on these interviews in his book 'Why I'm still a Christian'.

The book includes for instance, reasons for believing in the resurrection and critiques of reasons given in favour of atheism. I'm enjoying the book and am now three-quarters of the way through it, but for me it works best as a ponder book, reading a small chunk each day. This would be a good book for anyone who enjoys thinking through their faith or for non-Christians who are interested in the reasons for being a Christian.

Anthony's Recommendation:
Daily Walk Bible
Find out more here:
£21.99
I wrestled with God over moving from my beloved NIV to the NLT based Daily Walk Bible. I'm so glad He won the argument.  Written in everyday English, this Bible is SO easy to read; but even better than that, it's arranged into daily reading sections which enable you - if you wish - to read through the whole Bible in a year (or longer if you prefer).

Each Bible book and each daily section is accompanied with easy to understand but hugely valuable explanations and insights as to who wrote it, why and when, along with a breakdown of what it's all about, and what it might mean in our own lives now.  So helpful.  Thank You Lord!

Nicholas's Recommendation:
The Screwtape Letters, by C S Lewis
Find out more here:
£12.99
A humorous yet profoundly serious portrayal of human life and our fallen state from the vantage point of a correspondence between ‘Screwtape’ – a wordily-wise devil – to his nephew and novice demon Wormwood.  Described as one of the most ‘engaging accounts of temptation’ and triumph over it, every written.
