From the Author

A book about singles for everyone
As the author, I’ve been interested to see who is buying A Single Journey. The book is about singles, for examines the lives of 13 singles in the Bible. But sales tell me the book is for everyone. From the experiences of people like Adam, Rahab, Ruth, Paul, and Jesus, I draw principles applicable in living in today’s world.

One married couple wrote recently: "I’ve finished your book and am recommending it highly to everyone, ordering copies for our family and friends. It is beautifully written and full of rich insights."

My book is about singles, but is written for singles and marrieds alike, because it deals with the problems all of us face today. My conviction is that we can resolve these problems just as these ancients did: through a right relationship to God. Take a look at the table of contents and you’ll see what I mean.

A Single Journey: biblical sketches for life on your own By Jim McNutt

Thirteen singles in the Bible, their problems, and how they solved them.

1. The ache that wouldn’t go away Adam: the world’s loneliest single. 2. You can’t play on my team, kid Hagar: a rejected single parent who discovered God’s care. 3. All stressed up and no place to grow? Joseph: the single who knew what to do with stress.

4. Love Jericho style Rahab: the single who gave up on promiscuity. 5. What if God came to your pity party? Elijah: the single who was depressed. 6. How can we feel close when you’re so near? Samson: the hunk who couldn’t find intimacy. 7. The way to a man’s heart is not through his left ventricle Ruth: the widow who found the recipe for remarriage. 8. Caring enough to care Jonah: the single who couldn’t feel compassion. 9. Hanging super tough when the going gets rough Daniel: the single who had the courage of his convictions. 10. So you thought Oscar and Felix were the original odd couple? Mary and Martha: two singles who valued friendship. 11. Winning at work without losing with God Lydia: a working woman who almost had it all. 12. Finding purpose for every single day Paul: a man who made the most of his singleness. 13. Single summa cum laude Jesus: the ultimate single. -- Jim McNutt
